These rankings are for seasonal/redraft leagues and are the final ones for this season.
1. Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) – QB Peyton Manning and Clark have such great chemistry; Clark had 100 catches for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and should keep it going this season.
2. Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers) – He led all tight ends with 13 receiving touchdowns and had 965 yards receiving. There is tremendous upside for this young star on an up and coming team.
3. Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) – He is still the favorite weapon in one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL; he had 79 receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns.
4. Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys) – He had the receptions (94) and the yards (1,030), but only two touchdowns. He needs that total to go up to be at the top of the list.
5. Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons) – He still had a solid year with 867 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Injuries to QB Matt Ryan and RB Michael Turner hurt his effectiveness in 2009; he should rebound in 2010.
6. Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) – He had only 676 yards and five touchdowns, but that 159-yard game against the Cardinals in the Wild Card Round is a sign of things to come. Finley is a star on the rise.
7. Visanthe Shiancoe (Minnesota Vikings) – He had 11 touchdowns and should still be a solid force in 2010, especially with QB Brett Favre back. Having WR Sidney Rice gone the first half of the season will allow defenses to focus on him more, but will also mean more looks. It probably has little to no effect on his fantasy value.
8. Brent Celek (Philadelphia Eagles) – He really had a breakout year with 971 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. QB Kevin Kolb would be wise to look for him a lot in 2010.
9. Owen Daniels (Houston Texans) – Suffered a season-ending injury but still had 40 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games. He should come back at 100 percent, but he does have a troubling injury history.
10. Chris Cooley (Washington Redskins) – His only concern coming back from injury is the effectiveness of TE Fred Davis, who had 48 receptions for 509 yards and six touchdowns while subbing for him last season. All indications are that Cooley will be the No. 1 tight end and that the Redskins will try to use more two tight end sets because of the lack of depth at receiver. Cooley should have a big season and his ankle seems to be progressing nicely.
11. Zach Miller (Oakland Raiders) – Miller is the best tight end that nobody sees, but he is stuck in the Black Hole of Oakland. That might change with QB Jason Campbell in the mix.
12. Kellen Winslow (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – He is a good weapon playing on a bad team. He may have better numbers with QB Josh Freeman now a second-year player.
13. Greg Olsen (Chicago Bears) – He was okay with 60 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns, but more was expected with the trade for QB Jay Cutler.
14. John Carlson (Seattle Seahawks) – He had 51 receptions for 574 yards and seven touchdowns; hopefully this offense will be more consistent under new head coach Pete Carroll. Has not been very involved in the preseason, hopefully that is not a preview to the regular season.
15. Jermaine Gresham (Cincinnati Bengals) –Gresham should still see a number of looks in play action and near the goal line. He is also going to see favorable coverage in the middle of the field with WRs Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco attracting a lot of attention.
