Most successful dynasty owners save as many roster spots as possible for Running Back prospects.  I’ve been hanging onto Raiders' Michael Bush on most of my teams for three years now. Cowboys' Tashard Choice is on half of them as well.

RB is the one position where one most values talent over situation.  Injuries can clear a path through the depth chart. Just look at Texans' Arian Foster, who was on a practice squad in mid-November and starter material by mid-December.

Backup RBs are also frequently trade targets or raided off other teams’ practice squads. Early investors in Ryan Grant know this story well.

One of the biggest dilemmas for Fantasy Football Owners is trying to decide whether a breakout player was just a flash in the pan or a rising star that gave us a glimpse of great things to come.

It happens every year: A player finishes the season with a good five- or six-game stretch and is suddenly elevated to first round status.

Successful dynasty league owners know to keep a few roster spots open for long-term prospects. People who stashed away Aaron Rodgers early on are now enjoying the benefits of their brilliant move. During this last season, I started stocking up on Matt Leinart and Kevin Kolb. Assuming he doesn’t stink up the place, the Leinart acquisition has already paid off, while we already know Kolb will shine as soon as he gets his opportunity to start.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner has retired from the NFL. Unlike Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre, it is likely that Warner will stay retired. With his retirement will come a shake-up of the Arizona Cardinals offense.

There are far-reaching consequences if things remain how they are. The retirement will not impact seasonal leagues too significantly, as it was announced early enough. Players’ values will fluctuate and stabilize by the time seasonal drafts come around.

This is not the case with dynasty leagues.

These seasonal rankings will be updated through the offseason.

  1. New York Jets – The Jets made a lot of strides in 2009, and with another year in head coach Rex Ryan’s system, they should improve even more in 2010.

While I do not think you should punt your tight end in fantasy football, I do not think you need an elite one to win consistently.

For example, last year you could have picked up two top five performers in the San Francisco 49ers' Vernon Davis and Philadelphia Eagles' Brent Celek for cheap in the offseason. This while perennial mainstays Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Kellen Winslow III dropped in the rankings.
