People Need to keep Criticizing the Bengals PDF Print E-mail

People need to keep criticizing Cincinnati

At 0-5 they are among the worst teams in the NFL. Only the Texans, Rams, and Lions have zero wins. The Bengals can take solace in the fact that even though they are the only 5-loss team in the NFL they also have the best point differential among the winless teams at -41.

This is not a case of me jumping on late. I said the Bengals should have fired Lewis after last season.  I said this is one of the worst run organizations in football. I said that even though they had Carson Palmer, Chad Ocho Cinco, and T.J. Houshmanzadeh they wouldn’t win more than five games. I didn’t think Lewis could get them to play together. I may have overestimated them.

Lewis is not entirely responsible for the mess that is going on there. Credit the Brown family for 20 years of below average football. No one has been able to win there and Lewis did lead the team to a division title back in 2005.  I believe he can coach and he should get another chance as a NFL head coach. While he made some mistakes in Cincinnati, he also did some good things to help turn this around.  People are actually surprised the Bengals aren’t competitive. That didn’t happen for quite a while before he got there.

That doesn’t change the fact of how terribly he has done since 2006. The team doesn’t appear to play hard like they used to and they seem to be more worried about TD celebrations, name changes, contracts, parole hearings, and other things that are not factors that lead to winning football games.  Seeing the Bengals will not be getting a new owner anytime soon they need to get a new coach, clean house, and start over.

Stop Criticizing the Cowboys PDF Print E-mail

Stop criticizing the Dallas Cowboys

Every week it seems to be a new problem. Tony Romo isn’t doing this right. Terrell Owens is complaining about this.  Dallas isn’t tough enough. They are underachieving. They won’t win a playoff game for the first time since 1996.

Trust me, having been a NFL fan since 1989 that has rooted for the Packers for a number of years I don’t exactly have a soft spot in my heart for the Cowboys. But this team is 4-1 on the year. In their last 22 games they are 17-5. They had a two-point loss to the Redskins this year, a four-point loss to the Giants in the Divisional Round, a 21-point loss to the Redskins on the last game of the season, a four-point loss to the Eagles, and a 21 point loss to the Patriots. Two of those losses were to teams in last years’ Super Bowl and four of the five losses were 2007 playoff teams.

Fantasy Football's Week Six Start/Sit PDF Print E-mail
Fantasy Football - Start/Sit

Week five is in the books and we are barreling into the heart of the fantasy football schedule: Week six. Two tough  defenses have a bye with Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Also, one cupcake defense is off this week in Kansas City.

Start of the Week

Jason CampbellOne QB that has overachieved this season is Jason Campbell. Most people will remember his poor outing week one versus the Giants. Since then Jason has made strides at QB putting up stats that on the correct match up he is not just a viable option but a very good one.

Last week he navigated the Eagles' rush defense and got sacked only once. (Give the OL a gift, Jason.) He also avoided the dangerous pitfalls of an elite Eagles’ secondary.

He did not throw a TD but he made good decisions with the ball. The Eagles took away Santana Moss; he adjusted and found Chris Cooley. Did I also mention he has not thrown an interception this season in 159 pass attempts?

Now this week he will play against St. Louis. The Rams are...

Who will lose first: NY Giants or Titans? PDF Print E-mail

Titans-Giants

With the Buffalo Bills being destroyed in The Desert by the Cardinals 41-17, there are now only two teams that remain unbeaten in the 2008 NFL Season.

The 5-0 Tennessee Titans and the 4-0 New York Giants have established themselves as the early season powerhouses in the NFL.

Last year we had a New England vs. Dallas game early in the season to gauge where the two teams stood.

This year, the Giants and Titans do not meet up to stumble one another’s perfect record. Therefore, we are left to speculate as to which team will lose first.

Predicting the future is always difficult, but I feel it never hurts to look back toward the past and see if any trends can be found. Here are all the seasons from this decade and the last team to lose a game.  The first number is the teams scoring offense rank.  The second number is the team's defensive rank.

2007 Patriots (16-0), 1st, 4th,
2006 Colts (9-0), 1st, 23rd
2005 Colts (13-0), 2nd, 2nd,
2004 Eagles (7-0), 8th, 2nd
2003 Chiefs (9-0), 1st, 19th
2002 Raiders (4-0), 2nd, 6th
2001 St Louis (6-0), 1st, 7th,
2000 St Louis (6-0), 1st, 31st

Now, here are the stats for the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans:

College's Week 6 recap: Is the Big Red dead? PDF Print E-mail
College Football - Weekly Recaps

Jeremy MaclinWith a heavy heart, and my tail between my legs, I bring you Week 6’s recap in College Football.
So, what did we learn?

The Big Red might be officially dead. Mizzou is legit. USC is still USC. Ohio State isn't done yet. Vanderbilt is the best story in the country this year, and the distance between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' in the Big 12 is bigger than the Grand Canyon.

Nebraska: On Saturday, my beloved Huskers got their proverbial heads handed to them early and often. No less than 59 seconds into the game, I witnessed Jeremy Maclin (above) streaking down the sideline untouched for a 58-yard touchdown reception.  Less than a minute into the game, and it was over. By halftime

Deangelo Williams 3 TDsKansas City @ Carolina:  Kansas City’s victory over Denver last weekend was a fluke. Their defense was destroyed by Jake Delhome’s passing game.  Delhomme had 236 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception, but that interception didn’t appear to be much more than that.

Deangelo Williams ( whom we had him in our (Fantasy Breakout list ) had the biggest day for the Panthers scoring three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving. He now has 324 rushing yards on the young season splitting work with Stewart.

He had 123 yards on the ground and 25 receiving. Rookie Jonathan Stewart was a non-factor, but did rush for 72 yards mostly during mop up time. Steve Smith neared the 100-yard receiving mark with 96 on six catches and Muhsin Muhammad connected on three catches for 71 yards and a score.

The Chiefs rushed for 35 total yards on the day, doing it with three different runners, and had only 123 yards receiving. Rookie Jamaal Charles led Chiefs' RBs with 18 rushing yards, followed by QB Tyler Tightpen's 16 and Larry Johnson's two! Dwayne Bowe led the Chief wide receivers with 57 yards. The Chiefs, according to Herm Edwards are in rebuilding mode. It was obvious today as the Chiefs were dominated on both sides of the ball.  Kansas City 0 – Carolina 34
